Dear Members of the South-Central Section AUA,

It is with great enthusiasm and a deep sense of honor that I write to you today as the newly elected President of our distinguished South-Central Section American Urological Association. I am truly humbled by the trust and confidence you have placed in me to lead our esteemed organization.

First and foremost, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to my predecessors for their outstanding leadership and dedication to the field of urology. Under their guidance, our section has thrived, and I am committed to building upon their legacy while also steering us towards new horizons.

This year, our annual meeting will take place at the iconic Broadmoor Hotel in the breathtaking backdrop of Colorado Springs. The Broadmoor Hotel has been a symbol of elegance and excellence for generations, and it is the perfect venue for us to come together, share knowledge, and forge new connections.

As we embark on this exciting journey, I would like to emphasize a vision that is very close to my heart — the active involvement of the new generation of brilliant urologists within our section. Our field is continuously evolving, and the energy, fresh perspectives, and innovative ideas of our young urologists are invaluable assets. We must create an environment where they feel not only welcomed but also empowered to take the reins of leadership and drive our section’s future.

One of the key ways to achieve this is by fostering mentorship opportunities. Mentoring is a powerful tool that can bridge the gap between seasoned urologists and those just starting their careers. I believe that each of us has valuable experiences to share, and mentorship can be a two-way street. Let’s encourage intergenerational dialogue, collaboration, and knowledge exchange, ensuring that the torch of excellence in urology is passed from one generation to the next.

Inclusion is another cornerstone of our future. Being made the first Latino Korean Brazilian American president of SCSAUA in over a century is both a source of pride and humility for me. Since I joined the section in 2000, I appreciate the community’s welcome to me.

Our section must be a place where diversity in all its forms is not only recognized but celebrated. We will work diligently to ensure that every member, regardless of their background or circumstances, feels that they have a place here and that their voice is heard. This inclusivity will enrich our discussions, broaden our perspectives, and drive innovation in our field.

I am eagerly looking forward to our upcoming meeting at the Broadmoor Hotel, where we will begin turning these visions into realities. I invite each and every one of you to actively participate, engage in discussions, and contribute your ideas. Together, we will make our section an even more vibrant and welcoming community.

Please stay tuned for further details about our meeting, including the schedule, speakers, and exciting events we have in store for you. Your involvement and enthusiasm are vital to our collective success.

In closing, I want to express my profound appreciation for the trust you have placed in me to lead our section. I am committed to serving you with dedication and passion, and together, we will write the next chapter in the illustrious history of the South-Central Section American Urological Association.

Warmest regards,

Fernando J. Kim, MD, MBA, FACS
